Establishing Peace in the Region Depends on Armenian-Azerbaijani Negotiations, Says Zurabishvili
The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, stated during a joint announcement with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan that the establishment of complete peace in the region depends on the outcomes of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“The future of the region is closely tied to a peaceful environment. We hope that negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan will continue successfully. In this regard, we welcome the EU's involvement,” emphasized Zurabishvili.
She noted that the establishment of peace in the region is essential for economic development and all new projects related to the region, stating that these would create prospects for the future.
Zurabishvili added that cooperation in the fields of transportation and high technology was highlighted during the meeting with Khachaturyan. The issue of preserving their language for Armenians living in Georgia was also addressed. Zurabishvili pointed out that the peaceful coexistence of citizens of Armenian and Azerbaijani descent in Georgia serves as an example for the Caucasus region.
It is noteworthy that this is Khachaturyan's first official visit to Georgia. The Armenian president will also meet with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, and representatives of the Armenian community.
