UN Warns of Possible Threat of Nuclear War in Ukraine
The head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Division, Ramesh Rajasingham, has stated that the prospect of nuclear war has become conceivable in Ukraine, reports RIA Novosti.
"The prospect of a nuclear conflict, which was once unimaginable, is now again possible," he said.
Rajasingham also pointed out that many Ukrainian civilians are deprived of food, water, and electricity.
In the context of the Russian special operation in Ukraine and the supply of Western military equipment to Kyiv, political figures have started to increasingly discuss the threat of nuclear war. Meanwhile, Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has stated that the danger of nuclear war cannot be completely ruled out due to the situation in Ukraine.
Additionally, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has asserted that the threat of nuclear war is "real," and that its unacceptability is a principled position for Russia.
