Street Trade Prohibited in Gyumri Starting May 1

Street trade in Gyumri will be prohibited starting from May 1. According to Armenpress, the city hall has decided to ban outdoor trade activities in several areas of the city based on a resolution adopted last December. The issue is not only associated with the disruption of the city’s, particularly the central area’s, appearance but also concerns the obstruction of citizens' and vehicles' movement on streets and sidewalks occupied for trade.

According to the Gyumri city hall, traders have been given time until April 30 to clear the streets and sidewalks. Traders are encouraged to relocate to designated private areas for trade in the city’s central locations including Shahumyan Street, Victory Avenue, and the area known as the Lachin Corridor.
This was highlighted by the Deputy Mayor of Gyumri, Davit Arushanyan, during a public discussion on the initiative to suspend outdoor trade. “We have agreed that there will be a one-month grace period for relocation, and the rate will remain unchanged at 300 drams per square meter for one year. Completely new pavilions will be constructed there,” stated Deputy Mayor Davit Arushanyan.

Sanitary and hygienic standard violations have been recorded not only in the central area but also in other locations, including the Ani district and the area adjacent to the railway station. Street trading will also be prohibited in these areas.
