Emergency Alert: Sewage Flowing Everywhere, Residents Struggle to Dispose of Trash
For the past month, residents of several buildings on Margaryan Street in Yerevan have been living in unsanitary conditions. On April 10, in a conversation with shamshyan.com, residents voiced their concerns.
Shamshyan.com reports, “For a month now, sewage water from a manhole designated for wastewater has been flowing out and flooding the area around several neighboring buildings, a school, and a kindergarten.
We call 'Veolia Water' almost every day, and they respond that our request has been registered, but then they just contradict themselves, saying it’s not their responsibility, but rather the city’s job. When we contact the Yerevan Municipality, they also redirect us back to 'Veolia Water'. Due to the negligence of officials from the municipality and 'Veolia Water', several buildings, the school, and kindergarten have found themselves in a cholera-prone situation.
We regularly pay our bills to 'Veolia Water', yet it seems that the company is sitting on our shoulders like a burden. If we delay payment by one day, our water will be cut off, but we have been dealing with this unsanitary situation for a month now. Who is going to address this issue on behalf of 'Veolia Water'?
If the responsible officials from the Yerevan Municipality and the Ajapnyak administrative district had any consideration for us, they could press 'Veolia Water' to resolve this issue. We are not asking for much. We consistently meet our payment obligations, but in return, we receive inhumane treatment as consumers.
It would be helpful for Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan to send one of his deputies to this area, who can see for themselves the disarray in which we are living. They claim they are fighting against COVID-19. If this is how they are fighting, and they are not resolving this unsanitary condition, then their efforts are in vain.
Since morning, we have become phone operators for 'Veolia Water'. At least try to be human and consider working quickly to resolve this issue.
The website reports that the sewage is flowing and flooding the school, kindergarten, and several building yards, even flowing near the bins for garbage, making it impossible for residents to dispose of their trash.
