Is Drinking Water in Nerkhin Hand Village of Syunik Threatened? Governor's Comment

The drinking water in Nerkhin Hand village of Syunik is not under threat. According to Sputnik Armenia, this was stated by the governor of Syunik, Robert Ghukasian. He clarified the reports suggesting that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have approached the Syunik border and established themselves near the drinking water source in Nerkhin Hand.

“In reality, that's not the case; the drinking water pipeline comes from the opposite direction,” the governor emphasized, noting that there is currently no danger of losing control over the drinking water pipeline.

Regarding the movements of the Azerbaijani side, Syunik Governor Robert Ghukasian reaffirmed the clarification from the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, adding that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces retreated from the mentioned area in November 2021 and have now returned again.

The governor did not respond to the question regarding whether the specified area is part of the sovereign territory of Armenia and the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. He also left unanswered the question of when the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were first deployed in the pastures and the cemetery area. He noted that these details are matters for closed discussions and may not be subject to publication.
