Why Is Britain Hesitant to Ban RT Broadcasts?
If RT broadcasts are banned in the UK, it will likely lead to the blocking of the BBC in Russia, which is undesirable. This statement was made by the UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, according to RIA Novosti.
“We are examining what can be done about RT, but the reality is that if we ban RT’s broadcasting in the UK, it will likely lead to a ban on the BBC in Russia. We want the Russian people to know the truth about what Vladimir Putin is doing, so we need to be cautious on this issue,” Truss said.
She responded in this way to a lawmaker's complaints that RT allegedly spreads falsehoods, noting that both RT and the Sputnik agency are already banned in some European countries as part of sanctions against Russia.
