Earthquake in Tavush: Confirmed by the Ministry of Emergency Situations
An earthquake occurred in the Tavush region a short while ago. Residents of the area informed MediaHub.am about the incident. According to them, the tremor was approximately 3-4 in magnitude. Several aftershocks followed, which were less intense.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed our information, indicating that an earthquake with a magnitude of 3 has been recorded. Later, the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations released a statement, noting that the earthquake was recorded at 19:31 local time (15:31 GMT) on December 14.
The seismic network of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Seismic Protection Territorial Service recorded the earthquake at geographical coordinates 40.51°N and 45.29°E, located 2 km northeast of the village of Shorja, with a depth of 10 km and a magnitude of 3.4. The intensity of the underground tremor in the epicentral area was assessed at 4-5.
The earthquake was felt in Shorja, Artanish, and Draxhtik villages, as well as in the villages of Haghartsin and Gndzakar in the Tavush region at an intensity of 3-4. It was felt at 3 in Ijevan, Chambarak, Hrazdan, and Gavarr, while in the cities of Sevan and Abovyan, the intensity was recorded at 2-3.
