Taliban Moving Military Equipment Toward Iran Border, Iranian Border Guards Captured
Heavy armed clashes have erupted between Iranian border guards and militants of the Taliban radical movement at the Iran-Afghanistan border. Currently, the radicals are pulling military equipment toward the border, including hardware left behind by U.S. forces after their withdrawal from Afghanistan. Additionally, both sides are actively using artillery.
According to TASS news agency, citing Afghanistan's Aamaj News agency, several Iranian border posts located at the Afghanistan-Iran border have come under the control of the Taliban following intense armed confrontations. Clashes are ongoing in the Kang district of Afghanistan's northern Nimroz province. Several Iranian border guards have been captured by the militants.
Local residents, following the directives of Taliban insurgents, have been forced to leave their homes. Armed clashes at the border began around 17:30 local time (16:00 Moscow time). The causes of the conflict have not been disclosed.
