When the Desire to Elect a President is Strong: A Kilometer-Long Queue Near the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow

Today, on October 24, citizens of Uzbekistan are voting for the president of the republic. Polling stations opened at 8:00 AM local time and will close at 8:00 PM.

Five candidates have registered for the presidential elections: the current leader and uncontested favorite of these elections, Shavkat Mirziyoyev; member of the parliament's Senate, Maksud Vorisov; Vice President of the Academy of Sciences, Bahrom Abdukhalimov; deputy of the legislative chamber of parliament, Alisher Kadirov; and the head of the parliament, Nazrullo Oblomurodov.

According to Uzbekistan's current electoral code, the president is elected for a five-year term, and the same person cannot serve as the president of Uzbekistan for more than two consecutive terms.

Additionally, a kilometer-long queue has formed near the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow as everyone rushes to participate in the election.
