Eight Citizens Detained in Center Division, Producer Armen Grigoryan Injured: Hayk Mamijanyan
Hayk Mamijanyan, the secretary of the parliamentary faction "Honorary Title," visited the Center Division of the police to inquire about the condition of those detained during the protest at Charles Aznavour Square in Yerevan.
In a conversation with journalists, when asked why citizens were detained, the MP responded: "What reason is there for people to be detained in present-day Armenia — for patriotism, dignity, and thinking about a real state?" Mamijanyan expressed confidence that the police would soon announce that the citizens had not complied with a legal request from the police, but he argued that the requirement was not legal to begin with.
“Fighting for the homeland, having dignified and patriotic views cannot be considered a harm to the state. Those who think in this way are the guarantors of our country's future,” he said.
Mamijanyan reported that there were eight citizens in the Center Division, and there were also detainees in the Shengavit division, whom they would also visit. He noted that producer Armen Grigoryan had sustained injuries during his detention.
“Armen Grigoryan was forcibly detained, and during the detention, he was harmed, suffering injuries to his leg and side. There cannot be a criminal basis for not complying with a police officer's legal demand; the protest did not harm anyone, and there was no basis for halting the protest. We are returning to the old attempts to establish a police state that Nikol likes,” he said.
Hayk Mamijanyan indicated that among those detained were also participants of the first Nagorno-Karabakh war. “The treacherous junta has decided to show all dissenters as if there is no possibility for street protests. I want to remind them how they all hid in a bunker about six months ago and made it clear that nothing has changed since then. At any moment, all of this could resume,” said Hayk Mamijanyan.
