Taliban Prohibits Women from Participating in Certain Sports
Women living in Afghanistan will be unable to engage in sports that do not align with Sharia norms regarding their appearance. This was stated by Ahmadullah Wasiq, the deputy head of the Taliban's cultural affairs commission, as reported by TASS.
"We live in an era of mass information where women participating in sports can be photographed or filmed, which can be seen by a large number of people. Islam and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan do not permit women to play cricket or engage in any sport where certain parts of their bodies may be exposed," Wasiq told Australian CBS.
He added that Islam allows women to go out into public as needed, but sports are deemed "not a necessity."
