Property Belonging to Armenians Affected by Flood in the Netherlands, No Casualties Reported
The heavy rains and rising river levels have caused damage not only in Germany and Belgium, where the death toll has reached hundreds but also in the Limburg region of the Netherlands. It should be noted that a significant number of Armenians reside in Limburg. The "Saint Karapet" Armenian church is located in Maastricht, and the "Ani" Armenian community operates here.
The cities most affected include Bunde, Meerssen, Hechum, Borchhaven, Ruimond, and Valkenburg, where Armenian families also live. According to Aravot.am, Levoan Sargsyan, the chairman of the "Ani" Armenian community and a member of the administration of the Saint Karapet Armenian church, reported in an interview with the Dutch Diary that fortunately, there are no casualties or injuries among Armenian families.
Approximately 10 Armenian families have suffered significant damage, while others have been evacuated to safe locations. A restaurant owned by an Armenian businessman has been completely submerged.
In Maastricht, two neighborhoods have been flooded, and police and military forces are assisting and maintaining order in the city. The natural disaster did not cause damage to properties belonging to the Armenian community. The Maastricht city hall has also requested assistance from the Armenian community. If necessary, the Saint Karapet Armenian church will serve as a shelter for evacuated elderly citizens.
