VIDEO: Protesters in Lebanon Throw Live Grenades at Police
In the city of Tripoli, Lebanon, protesters have deployed live grenades against police forces. This was reported by РИА Новости, referencing a statement from the country’s Ministry of Interior on Twitter.
"The grenades thrown at the officers were live, not sound grenades or Molotov cocktails. Nine officers were injured, three of whom are listed as serious, with one in critical condition," the ministry stated.
Law enforcement has been using tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters. Demonstrations and clashes between protesters and police have been ongoing in Tripoli for three days.
Citizens took to the streets demanding measures to improve living conditions and to lift the curfew imposed due to a new outbreak of the coronavirus. Protesters accuse the government of inaction and hold it responsible for the suffering of low-income families facing hunger.
