Construction of Kars-Gyumri-Nakhichevan-Meghri-Baku Railway Estimated at $434 Million
The construction of the Kars-Gyumri-Nakhichevan-Meghri-Baku railway is estimated to cost $434 million. This was announced by Vusal Ghasimli, director of the Center for Economic Reforms and Communication Research in Azerbaijan.
“Considering that there can be a railway connection from Kars to Gyumri, all foreign sources calculate that the total cost of the Kars-Gyumri-Nakhichevan-Meghri-Baku route will require expenses of $434 million,” he noted.
According to him, the Kars-Nakhichevan-Meghri-Zangilan-Baku railway will link Azerbaijan with the Nakhichevan autonomous region, while Armenia could have transport connection with Russia. Ghasimli stated that “by utilizing Azerbaijan's capabilities, Armenia can have a railway connection with Russia in two directions: Gyumri-Nakhichevan-Meghri-Baku and Ijevan-Ghazakh-Baku.”
