Iran Unveils Largest Warship in Naval History

Iran introduced two new warships on January 12, including the "Makran," the largest helicopter carrier in the history of its naval forces. According to the IRNA agency, this was reported by the press service of Iran's naval forces.

The "Makran" (named after a location in eastern Iran) serves as an advanced floating base designed to support naval operations in remote maritime areas, particularly in the northern part of the Indian Ocean, the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, and the Red Sea. It can carry six helicopters, speedboats, and marine special forces units.

According to Armenpress, citing TASS, the second vessel is the "Zareh" (Shield) missile corvette. The two ships will officially enter service on Wednesday and will participate in Iran's naval forces' two-day missile exercises named "Ektedar" (Power) in the Gulf of Oman. Previously, they successfully completed operational trials in near and distant maritime areas.

The commander of Iran's naval forces, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, stated that more vessels of this class will be launched in the upcoming years. The exercises will be led by the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, and the commander of the Iranian Army, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi.
