Goris Mayor Abducted; Lawyers Unable to Obtain Information, Deputy Mayor Reports
The Deputy Mayor of Goris, Irina Yolyan, has made a Facebook post stating that the Mayor of Goris, Arush Arushanyan, is currently abducted. The post reads:
“The head of the Goris community is currently abducted. I just spoke with the defending lawyers of Arush Arushanyan, Davit Karapetyan and Armen Melkonyan. So far, the lawyers have been unable to obtain any information from either the police or the investigative bodies. The Human Rights Defender has also been informed of this situation.
Due to the obvious illegal actions of the police, Arush Arushanyan has been deprived of his freedom for over six hours, and currently, the lawyers have not been able to work normally through legal means. I will provide additional information if anything changes.”
It should be noted that earlier, the police had reported that Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan had been taken in connection with a criminal case and presented to the investigative committee.
