Vagharshak Harutyunyan Meets with U.S. Ambassador to Armenia
On November 30, Armenian Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan met with Lyn Tracy, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia. Ambassador Tracy congratulated Harutyunyan on his new role as Minister of Defense and wished him success.
At the request of the U.S. Ambassador, the Minister presented the progress on the implementation of agreements reached after the cessation of hostilities. A priority issue highlighted was the return of prisoners, the discovery of the missing persons, and the exchange of the remains of the deceased. Intensive work is being carried out in these directions with the ICRC, the Russian Ministry of Defense, and the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces stationed in Artsakh.
The Minister also informed that an analysis of military operations and an evaluation of shortcomings are underway, which may lead to structural changes, decision-making processes, tactical adjustments, or legislative amendments.
During the meeting, the possibilities of giving new momentum to Armenian-American cooperation in the defense sector were also discussed. The parties agreed that new areas and directions of cooperation based on the priority interests and concerns of both sides would be initiated as a result of further discussions.
