Intellectuals Appeal to Russian Ambassador Regarding Missing Persons and Prisoners of War
“According to the eighth point of the statement, there should be an exchange of prisoners and bodies, as well as efforts to search for the missing. However, the statement does not specify the timelines for these actions. Dear Mr. Kopirkin, we request you to personally intervene in the process and to convey our request to the leadership of the Russian Federation. We are confident that such intervention will expedite the return of our prisoners to their homeland,” the letter states.
Several dozen people marched from Freedom Square to the Russian embassy to personally deliver the letter. The march was attended by Hrant Tokhatyan, Armen Grigoryan, Ruben Mkrtchyan, Mher Mkrtchyan, and others.
It should be noted that according to the information provided by the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, on November 27, 50-60 prisoners are being held in Azerbaijan, with the identities of 30 of them known.
Previously, Azerbaijan had captured two civilians from Hadrut: 85-year-old Yevgenia Babayan, who was returned to Armenia through ICRC mediation, and 84-year-old Misha Melkumyan, who died in Baku. Following the retrieval of the man's body and forensic examination, the RA Investigative Committee stated that his death was a result of violence due to cranial injury.
On November 11, after the establishment of the ceasefire, information was received that the Azerbaijani side had captured 10 Armenian civilians.
