Wave of Discontent Erupts in Turkey Over French Senate Decision
The four parties of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey—Justice and Development (AKP), Republican People's Party (CHP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and Good Party (İYİ Parti)—have jointly issued a statement condemning the French Senate's adoption of a draft resolution regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
According to "Armenpress," citing the Turkish news site Gazete Duvar, the statement was signed at the initiative of Grand National Assembly President Mustafa Şentop, emphasizing that as political powers of Turkey, they strongly condemn the decision adopted by the French Senate on November 25.
The four parties expressed their dissatisfaction, stating that the large majority vote in favor of the Senate decision raises their concerns regarding the future of France. The statement highlighted the fact that according to UN Security Council resolutions 822, 853, 874, and 884 adopted in 1993, Nagorno-Karabakh is recognized as part of Azerbaijan and reiterated that the decision made by the French Senate is "invalid from the perspective of international law."
“Recalling that such biased and provocative initiatives are far from ensuring peace, tranquility, and stability in our region and the world, we state that those who undertake such hostile actions against our country and our brotherly Azerbaijan do not escape the attention of our assembly and our beloved nation,” the statement concluded.
On November 25, the Senate of the French Republic adopted a draft resolution on the "necessity of recognizing the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh." During the Senate session, lawmakers called on the government to act, stand alongside the Armenian people, and recognize the independence of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.
