Transportation Links Opening Will Change the Entire Development Logic in the Region: Pashinyan
The political agreement on the opening of transportation links, included in the joint statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on November 9, could change the entire economic situation in the region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in an interview with TASS.
"This is a very important point," he said, commenting on this aspect of the tripartite statement. "And I believe that in the near future we should focus on this. When we talk about economic stabilization not only in Armenia but throughout the region, we need to take concrete steps."
Pashinyan noted that the current difficult economic situation is not only characteristic of Armenia. "The situation is not so good in all countries of the region and around the world, and this is related to the coronavirus pandemic. That is to say, this is a global and regional problem. And the existing political agreement on the opening of transportation communications can certainly serve as a starting point for changing not only the situation in the region but also the entire logic of economic development in our region," he said.
The Armenian Prime Minister emphasized that he expects the implementation of this provision. "I hope that we will be able to fulfill the political agreements enshrined in the joint statement. In particular, I mean the opening of economic infrastructure, railways, and so on," he clarified.
