Sergey Lavrov Discusses Preservation of Monuments in Artsakh with UNESCO Director
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a phone conversation on November 20 with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, during which they discussed the preservation and protection of historical and cultural sites in Artsakh.
According to a press release issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, "Special attention was given to the potential use of UNESCO's resources to facilitate the resolution of the humanitarian situation in the conflict zone in Artsakh, particularly concerning the protection and preservation of cultural monuments and religious sites affected by military operations and vandalism, as well as the restoration of the educational system in the region."
Earlier, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay stated that UNESCO is ready to assist Armenia and Azerbaijan in the preservation of historical and cultural objects in Artsakh and plans to send a group of experts to the area.
