We Are Neither Participants Nor Supporters in the Current Struggle for Power, Says Levon Ter-Petrosyan
We are neither participants nor supporters in the current struggle for power, stated the first President of Armenia and leader of the Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, as reported by Ilur.am.
“The Armenian National Congress's statement yesterday has misled many in both the ruling power and the fragmented radical opposition, suggesting that we are supporting one of those sides. Clearly, we are neither participants nor supporters in the current struggle for power. Our only concern is to avoid civil war and to overcome the existing crisis exclusively through constitutional means, regardless of which of the confronting camps resolves the issue. Of course, the more desirable option is a rational consensus between both sides.”
Regarding the domestic political confrontation prompted by the Russia-Armenia-Azerbaijan trilateral agreement, he noted that it should be seen as an established fact, considering at least this crucial point: it has ended the war, and thus, there will be no more casualties. The implementation of the agreement and the final resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is a challenge that Armenia must prepare for with utmost seriousness in the near future,” added Ter-Petrosyan.
It is worth reminding that on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan reached an agreement on the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, and a statement was signed. Some Russian peacekeepers are already in Artsakh. On November 11, Armenia's Minister of Defense David Tonoyan met with the commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, who arrived to monitor the ceasefire regime in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. Issues related to the organization and implementation of the peacekeeping mission were discussed during the meeting.
