Peaceful Revolution Occurring in Belarus: Tsikhanouskaya Addresses European Parliament via Video Link
The presidential elections in Belarus were held amid numerous violations, and the official results have not been accepted by the Belarusian people. This statement was made by Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of the Belarusian opposition, during a video conference at an extraordinary session of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, convened to discuss the situation following the August 9 elections, as reported by TASS agency.
She noted that thousands of Belarusians have taken to the streets in unprecedented peaceful protests following the elections. According to Tsikhanouskaya, the authorities responded with violence: “At least six people have died, and dozens are missing,” she stated.
