New Morgue Designed for Organizing Autopsies During Epidemics
The first morgue in the Republic of Armenia has been renovated and put into operation in accordance with international standards specifically for organizing autopsies during outbreaks of highly dangerous infectious diseases. The morgue building of the Kotayk regional division of the Ministry of Health's Forensic Medical Center is now equipped with modern facilities.
It consists of two separate autopsy rooms, featuring three and one sectional tables, respectively, with one table designated for the autopsies of deceased individuals from highly dangerous infections, including those who died from coronavirus, for forensic medical examination purposes.
The autopsy rooms have separate entrances and independent ventilation systems. The infection room is equipped with an air blower and an air extraction system operating under high directional pressure, a specialized infectious autopsy table, and HEPA filters.
The morgue building has two separate entrances for accepting bodies, along with two separate multi-chamber refrigeration systems with electric lifters for storing bodies of individuals who died from infectious and non-infectious diseases, as well as a separate entrance for citizens and staff.
It is noteworthy that the offices of the medical staff are isolated from the morgue. Body identification is organized through a special system using cameras and remote communication.
