European Council to Hold Emergency Meeting on Situation in Belarus on August 19
The European Council will hold an emergency meeting on the situation in Belarus on August 19, as announced today by the organization’s leader, Charles Michel, on his Twitter account.
"I will convene a consultation with the EU member states this Wednesday at 12:00 to discuss the situation in Belarus," Michel wrote.
The head of the organization emphasized that the people of Belarus have the right to determine their own future and freely choose their leader. "Violence against protesters is unacceptable," Charles Michel stressed.
Michel's press secretary, Barend Leyts, added on Twitter that the consultation will be conducted via videoconference.
