Armenian Army Demonstrates Superiority Over Azerbaijani Forces, Says Artzruni Hovhannisyan to Defense Romania
The head of the Military Education Department of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, renowned military expert, and former press secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Artzruni Hovhannisyan, discussed the recent military escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the border during an interview with the Romanian publication Defense Romania.
Hovhannisyan noted that Armenia successfully repelled the Azerbaijani attack and provided details about the military operations. "In addition to the use of drone systems during the operations, the Azerbaijani side also employed Israeli military technology and used the 'Yashma' special forces in their assaults," Hovhannisyan stated, adding that the Armenian Armed Forces not only repelled the attack but also demonstrated military superiority over Azerbaijan.
He mentioned that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces first fired seven rounds from a 82mm mortar and then three rounds from a 120mm mortar towards the Armenian village of Chinari, causing damage to residential buildings. Any attempt by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense against Armenia's territory was targeted and neutralized. Moreover, the Armenian Armed Forces, adhering to their principles, did not fire towards Azerbaijani settlements. Only the engineering infrastructure and technical means of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were targeted.
Essentially, a special forces unit of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces attempted to attack in the direction of the 'Anvakh' position located in the Tavush region of Armenia after midnight, supported by heavy weaponry, particularly artillery. However, due to the heroic and competent actions of the Armenian troops, they were repelled, sustaining significant losses, including some of their equipment and armored vehicles. The attack was conducted by soldiers of the special forces unit named 'Yashma' from Azerbaijan," he mentioned.
In response to a question about the significance of these brief military operations from a military art perspective, the expert stated: "The brief military engagements during the July escalation, which had tactical significance from the classical military science perspective, have now shifted from tactical to operational in terms of the involved forces and means, and their geopolitical significance is manifesting at a strategic level. These military actions once again proved that classical definitions and divisions in military science are conditional; they do not correspond perfectly to modern demands. The means used during these military operations and their application methods have again demonstrated that long-range combat, non-contact combat, and night combat at least increase their relative weight, and high-tech means become dominant. In all of this, the Armenian army proved its clear professional and tactical superiority over the Azerbaijani army."
