China Blames Pompeo for Spreading 'Political Virus'

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated on August 12 during a press briefing that “U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is constantly criticizing and accusing China; wherever he goes, he spreads disinformation and the 'political virus.'”

Previously, during a speech in the Senate after his visit to the Czech Republic, Pompeo remarked that Russia is seeking to destabilize Czech security, spread misinformation, and conduct cyberattacks, while China is attempting to control businesses everywhere. He also stated that China poses an even greater threat to democracy than Russia.

According to the diplomat, Pompeo and others like him are trying to “link the international community with the Chinese and anti-communist narrative,” but the international community sees this very clearly and will not allow itself to be convinced, thus such attempts will not be successful.
