Lebanese Intelligence Services Reported Dangerous Materials at Beirut Port in July

Lebanese President Michel Aoun received a report on July 20 from intelligence services regarding the significant presence of ammonium nitrate at the Beirut port. This was reported by РИА Новости, citing a statement from the president's press service on Twitter.

“Immediately after the report concerning the presence of ammonium nitrate in one of the port's warehouses was conveyed to the president on July 20, a military advisor informed the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s office regarding security issues to take necessary measures,” the statement read.

It is noteworthy that, according to the country’s Ministry of Interior, the powerful explosion that rocked the Lebanese capital on August 4 was caused by 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in the port warehouse. The explosion resulted in hundreds of deaths, thousands of injuries, and left hundreds of thousands homeless.

The capital has been declared a disaster zone, and a state of emergency has been announced for two weeks.
