EU Urges Belarusian Authorities to Initiate Dialogue with Opposition

The European Union has threatened to take measures against those responsible for violence, unlawful arrests, and falsification of election results in Belarus.

As reported by РИА Новости, the foreign ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden have called on Belarusian authorities to engage in dialogue with the opposition.

It is noteworthy that unauthorized protests are taking place in Minsk and Brest, accompanied by sporadic arrests and clashes with law enforcement. Citizens of Belarus have taken to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the results of the presidential elections held on Sunday, in which the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, reportedly received over 80 percent of the votes.
