Why Robert Nazaryan Was Arrested: NSS Clarifies
In light of various unreliable reports circulating in the media regarding Robert Nazaryan's arrest, and emphasizing the public's right to be informed, we announce that Robert Nazaryan, who served as the chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia from 2003 to 2018, has been arrested on suspicion of committing a criminal act as defined under part 2 of Article 308 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. This arrest is within the framework of a criminal case under investigation by the Special Investigative Service of Armenia, which has obtained factual data indicating that Nazaryan misused his official powers in 2011 due to personal interest in setting benefits for a specific business entity, leading to severe consequences.
Specifically, on September 16, 2011, Nazaryan received an opportunity under the pretext of promoting the development of hydropower in Armenia but, in fact, aimed to establish benefits for the company “Dzoraget Hydro” LLC, which is owned by individuals connected to former President Serzh Sargsyan's son-in-law, Mikael Minasyan.
