The Summer Olympics Are in Doubt
The COVID-19 virus has put the Summer Olympic Games in doubt. Canada is the first country to announce that it will not send its athletes to the Games.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has likewise indicated that the 2020 Summer Olympics may be postponed. The Games are scheduled to start on July 24 in Tokyo.
Historically, the Olympic Games have only been canceled due to war—specifically in 1916 during World War I, and in 1940 and 1944 during World War II.
