You Cannot Undermine State Institutions: Mikayel Melkumyan
Member of the National Assembly from the Prosperous Armenia faction, Mikayel Melkumyan, addressed procedural issues during the discussion of the Constitutional amendments project in parliament today. He noted that this project subordinates the state interest to political interest.
"There are state institutions, and they are functioning. You cannot undermine state institutions when you have a huge majority in the executive power, parliament, and law enforcement agencies," he stated.
The chief presenter of the project, Vahagn Hovakimyan, mentioned that their goal is to establish a Constitutional Court that aligns with Chapter 7 of the 2015 Constitution. "The state interest imposes that the people of Armenia have a Constitutional Court whose decisions will not be questioned, where no one will think, 'What intrigue have they woven this time, and for whom—friends or political team?' Establishing a Constitutional Court in accordance with Chapter 7 arises directly from state interests," the presenter said.
