The SRC Prevents Drug Trafficking Attempt Through Armenia
Employees of the Anti-Smuggling Department of the State Revenue Committee recently, in cooperation with the staff of the Meghri Customs Checkpoint of the Southern Customs Administration, prevented another attempt to traffic a significant amount of drugs through the territory of Armenia via smuggling.
As a result of the inspection, officials examined the luggage of an Iranian citizen arriving from Iran. Approximately 5 kg of a drug was found hidden in three mattresses, with the sponges of these mattresses saturated with a powdered substance classified as 'opium'.
Materials regarding the incident have been submitted to the investigative department of the SRC, and a criminal case has been initiated under Article 267.1 of the RA Criminal Code. The Iranian citizen has been arrested.
