More Than 40,000 Displaced Persons from Artsakh Have Obtained Armenian Citizenship, Over 12,000 Are Children

More than 40,000 displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh have already obtained Armenian citizenship. Among them, over 12,000 are minors. This was announced at a press conference by Acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan.

"As of now, we already have more than 40,000 displaced individuals who have acquired Armenian citizenship. Over 12,000 of them are minors," Ghazaryan said.

Addressing the criticisms that the process of granting citizenship to those displaced from Artsakh has slowed down, Ghazaryan described it as "nonsense." He noted that the housing program has also contributed to an increase in the number of applications for citizenship. Currently, the number of applications is greater than the number of individuals who have already obtained citizenship.

Acting Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Nelli Davtyan also stated that the process of obtaining Armenian citizenship for those displaced from Artsakh has been digitized, which has made it easier. "At this moment, we have granted Armenian citizenship to 27,948 individuals displaced from Artsakh, of which 8,676 are from this year," Davtyan said.
