Director of Yerevan Orphanage Detained
The Court of Appeals, chaired by Judge Armen Danielyan, has upheld the prosecutor's appeal and selected detention as a measure of restraint for Liana Karapetyan, the director of the 'Yerevan Orphanage' state non-commercial organization. Reports 24News.am.
It is noteworthy that the first instance court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan had deemed it permissible to apply bail for Liana Karapetyan, setting the bail amount at 3 million drams. However, the prosecutor's office contested this decision.
Liana Karapetyan is accused under the Article 167, Part 2, Points 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (illegal adoption or transfer of a child by a group of individuals with prior agreement, using her official position) and Article 314, Part 1 (official forgery). She denies the charges against her.
