Witnesses in the Case of Former Yerevan Police Chief Ashot Karapetyan's Death, Russian Investigative Committee Reports
Former Yerevan Police Chief Ashot Karapetyan was not a citizen of the Russian Federation and had temporary registration in the city of Pyatigorsk. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Stavropol Krai in response to an inquiry from Hayastani Zhamanak.
It is recalled that Ashot Karapetyan and his uncle, Tigran Tarposhyan, the director of the private brewery “Bородинское пиво «Сюрприз» LLC, died as a result of an explosion that occurred at the brewery in Pyatigorsk on November 28, 2019.
The Investigative Committee of Stavropol has also stated that there are witnesses involved in the criminal case opened regarding the incident, and investigative actions are being carried out with them.
In their response, the Investigative Committee also noted that there are no new details regarding the cause of the explosion; hence, the criminal case is opened and remains under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code, which implies the failure to comply with safety regulations during production activities that could lead to the negligent death of two or more persons.
It is noteworthy that Tigran Tarposhyan, Ashot Karapetyan's uncle who died in the explosion, was registered as the director of “Bородинское пиво «Сюрприз» LLC just two days before the incident on November 26, replacing the previous director, Mhranian Patvakan.
“Bородинское пиво «Сюрприз» LLC was established on November 15, 2018, by a person named Gasparyan Armen. Since December 27, 2019, the director of the company has been Papakchyan Amelia.
Former Yerevan Police Chief Ashot Karapetyan had been working in the system since 1995. He was dismissed from his position in 2016 following clashes in the Sari Tagh neighborhood.
