Artsakh Cannot Be Under Azerbaijani Control in Any Case: Naghdalyan
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Anna Naghdalyan, has addressed the nervous reactions from Azerbaijani authorities regarding events held in Armenia in the context of the 30th anniversary of the anti-Armenian pogroms in Baku.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the anti-Armenian pogroms in Baku, which were met with nervous responses from Azerbaijani authorities, specifically from the ministries of Foreign Affairs and the president's aide. When asked for her assessment, she noted: "First, I would like to emphasize that several important commemorative events were held in Yerevan in connection with the 30th anniversary of the Baku anti-Armenian pogroms. There have been and continue to be numerous publications in the international media that address the barbaric destruction of the Armenian community in Baku."
“Unfortunately, this year, Azerbaijani authorities continued to justify the actions of the organizers and perpetrators of the anti-Armenian pogroms carried out in Baku 30 years ago, either directly or indirectly. Moreover, the aide to the Azerbaijani president, Hikmet Hajiyev, glorified the perpetrators of the heinous acts against defenseless individuals as 'martyrs.' Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Armenians of committing the Sumgait massacre,” she added.
The Azerbaijani side employs tactics characteristic of all criminals by blaming the victims for the crime and denying its responsibility for the public and systematic elimination of unarmed civilians in peaceful circumstances. “This once again unequivocally underscores that in no circumstance can the responsibility for the safety of any part of the Armenian people be entrusted to the Azerbaijani authorities. It is evident that Artsakh cannot be part of Azerbaijan under any circumstance, and the people of Artsakh cannot remain without the necessary lines of security for their protection,” Naghdalyan concluded.
