EU Grants 5.1 Million Euros for Road Safety Improvement in Armenia
The Republic of Armenia and the European Investment Bank have signed a grant agreement under the Neighborhood Investment Platform to support the implementation of a project aimed at improving road safety in Armenia. According to the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia, this agreement will allow the European Commission to finance the project with an investment grant of up to 4.25 million euros.
The overall objective of the project is to enhance regional connectivity through the improvement of Armenia's transport network, specifically by implementing road safety measures and strengthening the capacities of relevant authorities and stakeholders to meet international road safety standards.
This project includes the following activities: implementing road safety measures on the M-6 interstate road, conducting road safety-related works and improving infrastructure at 9 identified hazardous points on the H-8 republican road and the M-5 interstate road connecting Yerevan with Armavir and the Turkish border; addressing hazardous points on the M-2 Yerevan-Ararat-Kapan-Meghri, M-4 Yerevan-Hrazdan-Sevan-Azatamut, M-12 Goris, and M-17 Kapan-Shikahogh-Meghri interstate roads; as well as addressing other additional identified hazardous points.
The project also includes a supplementary technical assistance grant of up to 650,000 euros and a budgetary allocation equivalent to 200,000 euros for the implementation of the communication strategy regarding behavioral impact in the context of the EU’s communication activities, particularly focusing on the road safety improvement project in Armenia (COMBI).
