‘Dark Yerevan’: When Will the Capital’s Lighting Issue Be Resolved? City Hall Provides Clarification
Recently, Auroranews has been receiving reports regarding the lighting issue of Yerevan's streets. Citizens have noted that the streets of Yerevan are completely unlit during the early morning hours.
“In the early morning, people are going to work, and many of us use public transport. At 7:00 AM, there is no illumination in any part of the city, making it difficult for us to reach the stop safely or drive without risk of accidents. It’s inhumane conditions; we don’t understand why it’s so difficult to resolve this issue for just a few hours. Doesn’t our safety matter to city authorities?” expressed concerned citizens who called us, adding that funds are always available for concerts.
In a conversation with Auroranews, the head of the information department of Yerevan City Hall, Hovsep Kubatyan, addressed the issue, stating that they, too, are considering solutions. “However, we need to transition to energy-efficient lighting systems before we can think about resolving the issue,” he mentioned.
When we asked Mr. Kubatyan why some streets are lit during the day instead of the necessary hours, he explained that it is due to ongoing renovation works.
