BHK Proposes Up to 12 Years of Imprisonment for Inciting Suicide in the Military
Parliament is discussing a draft law on amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The lead presenter, BHK faction member Naira Zohrabyan, mentioned that the regulations aim to reduce the number of suicides in the military.
“Far fewer soldiers die from enemy fire than from suicides, related to imprecise relations within the army,” Zohrabyan stated.
She noted that currently, the Criminal Code prescribes up to 3 years of imprisonment for inciting suicide, whereas, in her opinion, this penalty is lenient. The draft proposes to consider such actions as offenses against military order and to toughen the penalty up to 12 years.
