Arsen Babayan Released from Detention Facility

Former deputy head of the National Assembly staff, Arsen Babayan, was released a short while ago. This was reported to Auroranews.am by Nona Navikyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.

It is worth recalling that the prosecutor’s office previously informed that, “After reviewing the materials of the criminal case and considering that in the current phase of the pre-trial investigation, most of the planned necessary investigative and other procedural actions regarding the defendant Arsen Babayan have already been conducted, the risk of hindering the investigation by illegally influencing the participants in the criminal proceedings has decreased should he remain at liberty. Additionally, the president of the 'Helsinki Committee of Armenia,' Avetik Ishkhanyan, and National Assembly member Sisak Gabrielyan submitted requests to apply personal guarantees as a preventive measure for defendant Arsen Babayan, accompanied by copies of receipts for transferring 500,000 AMD as a guarantee amount. Consequently, on November 12, 2019, a decision was made to change the preventive measure of detention for defendant Arsen Babayan and to apply personal guarantees instead.
