Sharmazanov and Arpine Hovhannisyan Officially Join Kocharyan's Supporters Team
In support of Robert Kocharyan's statement, new individuals have joined the cause. In this regard, Kocharyan's office issued a statement saying, "As is known, the day before, a number of political, public, cultural, and sports figures from Armenia and Artsakh released a joint statement expressing their concerns regarding the illegal actions against the first President of Artsakh and the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan.
The signatories of the statement, stating that President Kocharyan is a political prisoner, called on the authorities to cease unconstitutional processes of political persecution and pressures on the courts, and urged judges to implement the Constitutional Court's decision and change Robert Kocharyan's measure of restraint.
The statement received wide echo in Armenia, Artsakh, and the Diaspora. Throughout the day yesterday, hundreds of citizens, public and political figures joined those who signed the statement, notably: Hrant Margaryan – political figure / ARF /, Eduard Sharmazanov – former Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, member of the Republican Party's Governing Body, Arpine Hovhannisyan – former Minister of Justice of Armenia, former Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, president of the NGO “Legal Oversight and Education”, Sergey Seinyan – an osteologist and hematologist, academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, participant in the Artsakh War, Lia Ivanyan – writer, publicist, Menua Harutyunyan – journalist, analyst, Zoya Iskandaryan – Honored Teacher of the Republic of Artsakh, Svetlana Gulunts – educator, writer, Karapet Poghossian – human rights defender, president of the NGO “Human Rights Anti-Conflict Center”, Aghvan Poghossian – head of the “Civil Platform” organization, Anna Abrahamyan – lawyer, political analyst / Athens /, Gayane Sedrakyan – Doctor of Sciences in Information Systems of Business Economics / Belgium /, Ara Vardanyan – former director of the “Armenia” All-Armenian Fund and others.
The NGO “Alternative Projects Group” expressed its support through a separate statement, which was signed, among others, by former MPs Vahe Hovhannisyan, Stepan Margaryan, human rights defender, former Chair of the Permanent Committee on Human Rights Protection of the National Assembly Elinar Vardanyan, journalist and publicist Gegham Nazaryan.
The office of the second President of Armenia thanks the authors of the initiative and all those who joined the statement. It remains open for signing.
