PM Pashinyan's Speech at the UN Podium Angers Official Baku
Official Baku has responded to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's speech at the UN podium. Hikmet Hajiyev, head of the foreign relations department of the Azerbaijani presidential administration, told Trend news agency that the Prime Minister of Armenia has presented a "distorted" view of the political, legal, and historical aspects of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as reported by aravot.am.
According to Hajiyev, "The Armenian authorities undermined the negotiation process back in August when they spoke in Artsakh, and now Pashinyan is trying to present himself as a 'peace-loving' figure from the UN podium." He also recalled the July 5, 1921 decision of the Communist Party to "preserve Nagorno-Karabakh within Azerbaijan." Hajiyev stated, "Armenia's claims to join or recognize the independence of Artsakh contradict the principle of uti possidetis under international law and are therefore baseless within the framework of international law."
