Time: Being a 'Thief by Law' Could Result in Up to 10 Years of Imprisonment

The newspaper 'Time' reports: The Armenian government has submitted a draft law to the parliament regarding amendments and additions to the 'Criminal Code.' This draft can conditionally be termed the 'law on thieves by law.'

Article 223.1 of the draft is titled 'Granting, obtaining, or maintaining a high status in the criminal hierarchy.' It states that granting, obtaining, or maintaining a high status in the criminal hierarchy is punishable by imprisonment for a period of seven to ten years, with or without confiscation of property.

Should the law be adopted, being a 'thief by law' or granting such a title would effectively be considered a crime and punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment.
