Germany Accuses Russia of Attempted Sabotage at Leipzig Airport
The German government has officially accused Russia of attempting an attack at Leipzig/Halle airport using a drone loaded with explosives. This was reported by Reuters.
The incident occurred on August 4. The drone equipped with explosives was discovered near a parked Ukrainian cargo plane at the airport. German experts successfully defused it.
According to Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, the drone's design, the components used, the explosive material, and the launch mechanism bear similarities to tools previously employed in hybrid operations linked to Russia.
German authorities estimate that the operation required high technical proficiency and meticulous planning, although its direct execution may have been assigned to lower-level operatives.
Following the incident, Germany decided to close Russia's consulate in Bonn and suspend the operations of the "Russian House" in Berlin. Berlin also intends to support the imposition of new European sanctions against Russia.
The Russian side has denied the accusations, deeming them unfounded and politically motivated.
