The Case of the Catholicos Has Been Transferred to the Yerevan Criminal Court: Factinfo

The criminal case against His Holiness Catholicos Garegin II and six bishops from the Supreme Spiritual Council has been transferred from the general jurisdiction court of Armavir Province to the Yerevan Criminal Court. This was reported by "Factinfo."

The Judicial Department has announced that the case was received at the Yerevan Criminal Court on September 1. It is currently unclear which judge will be assigned to the case.

It is noteworthy that this is the second judge to refuse to hear the case in the general jurisdiction court of Armavir Province. Initially, Judge Manukyan declared self-recusal, after which the case was reassigned to Judge Serge Rushanyan. On August 28, Rushanyan decided to send the case to the Yerevan Criminal Court.

Rushanyan justified his decision by stating that the charge against the Catholicos did not specify where the papal directive regarding the excommunication of Arman Saroyan was received.

Recall that criminal proceedings against Garegin II were initiated concerning the non-fulfillment of a court ruling related to Arman Saroyan's case. A measure of constraint has been imposed, prohibiting him from leaving.

Criminal proceedings have also been initiated against several members of the Supreme Spiritual Council within the same framework.
