New Decision for Drivers: Vehicle Noise to Be Checked with Special Devices in Georgia

Starting today, the noise of vehicles will be checked using special portable devices. According to Aliq.ge, this announcement was made by the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Authorized units of the Ministry will conduct noise level checks of vehicles during road traffic operations, utilizing portable noise measurement devices acquired by the agency that comply with the international standard ISO 5130:2019.

“The permissible norms for noise generated during vehicle operation are regulated by the relevant decision of the Government of Georgia. According to this decision, in residential areas during nighttime hours from 23:00 to 08:00, the noise generated during the operation of vehicles must not exceed 80 decibels. According to the Code of Administrative Offenses, operating a vehicle that exceeds the noise levels established by Georgian legislation results in a fine of 100 lari and a 10-point reduction on the driver's license. A repeated offense incurs a fine of 200 lari and a 20-point reduction, while a third and each subsequent offense results in a fine of 300 lari and a 30-point reduction on the driver's license.

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aiming to maintain public order and ensure citizen safety, will continue to implement relevant measures, including traffic regulation and response to traffic violations in an active mode,” the announcement stated.
