Commander of the Tsambarak Military Unit Arrested in the Case of Accident Involving 7 Soldiers
According to ArmLur.am, the court has arrested the chief of staff of the Tsambarak military unit; further revelations during the investigation are not ruled out.
It was previously reported that the chief of staff of the military unit was arrested in connection with the incident where 7 soldiers were hit on the road from Tsambarak city to Vahan village.
According to the website's information, the preliminary investigation has clarified why the soldiers were running on the road late in the evening. The issue is that the soldiers had been talking loudly in the military unit's dining hall, and the chief of staff decided, with the intention of punishing them, to have them run from Tsambarak city to Vahan village.
Law enforcement officials have found that the punishment or penalty imposed by the chief of staff does not exist in the military regulations established by law. What's more, the chief of staff, by subjecting the soldiers to such punishment, failed to ensure their safety, which unfortunately resulted in a tragic incident for 7 soldiers, and one soldier could not be saved.
Law enforcement officials have indicated that they do not rule out submitting a motion to the court for the arrest of the company commander.
It is worth recalling that on August 19, around 21:20, a GAZ-53 truck without a license plate ran over 7 soldiers on the road from Tsambarak city to Vahan village. One of the soldiers could not be saved; he was identified as S. Vardanyan, born in 2007 from Abovyan.
The injured include J. H., born in 2007, A. S., born in 2007, a resident of Yerevan, S. A., born in 2007, a resident of Syunik Province, S. E., born in 2007, a resident of Kotayk Province, G. M., born in 2008, and G. B., born in 2008.
Immediately after the incident, the driver, Vahan Chagharyan, a resident of Vahan village, was arrested. Law enforcement officials established that the GAZ-53 vehicle was not suitable for operation, and the driver did not even possess a driver's license.
