Abandoned Newborn Definitely Born on August 10 Outside of Hospital Conditions, Doctor Says
The abandoned newborn was definitely born on August 10 and not in hospital conditions, according to Dr. Arshak Djerjeryan. He stated that if no complications arise, the child’s treatment will last for 20-22 days. After the treatment is completed, the child will be transferred to an orphanage.
The baby girl, found near one of the buildings on Halabyan Street in Yerevan, was confirmed to have been born on August 10 under non-hospital circumstances. In a conversation with journalists, the head of the neonatal service at the Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Djerjeryan, mentioned that the child was admitted to the hospital around 9:15 PM on August 10. Initially, the infant's condition was assessed as serious due to a body temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, indicating hypothermia.
“Hypothermia is critical and very dangerous, especially for newborns. According to protocol, a child cannot be warmed up too quickly; it should be raised half a degree per hour. Now the child's temperature is normal at 36.7 degrees, but there is respiratory insufficiency, which is why she is under a special device,” he said.
Djerjeryan further noted that the umbilical cord was tied by those who found the baby, and upon admission to the hospital, the child was still attached to a 25 cm long umbilical cord.
Regarding the child's respiratory issues, he indicated that this is a consequence of premature birth. “According to our calculations, the baby was born at 36 weeks. I don't see any developmental defects, and I can also say that there are no signs of violence. The infant weighs 2550 grams and measures 40 cm long. She is breathing independently, but we are using a special device to maintain positive pressure in her lungs to help her breathe more freely. This may last for 2-4 days,” he stated.
Dr. Djerjeryan emphasized that if no complications occur, the child’s treatment will last 20-22 days before transferring her to an orphanage.
It should be noted that the newborn was discovered near building 13 on Halabyan Street under some sheets. She has been transported to the Armenia Medical Center. The mother of the abandoned infant has yet to be identified. A criminal case has been initiated, and an investigation is ongoing.
