VIDEO: One Person Dead and Over 20 Missing Following Flooding in Grand Canyon
A powerful flood in Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona, USA) has destroyed nearly all pedestrian bridges over Bright Angel Creek, cutting off evacuation routes for tourists. According to the National Park Service, more than 20 people are considered missing, while 62 have already been evacuated. One person has died, CNN reported.
The forceful water currents have washed away massive boulders and metal structures into the Colorado River. Local media reports suggest that heavy rainfall of up to 2.5 centimeters could have triggered the disaster in the rocky terrain with significant elevation changes.
Rescuers are continuing their search efforts, but the forecast of more heavy rain expected on Monday increases the risk of secondary flooding and landslides.
